The Magical Video Spokesperson

I have often helped mediate between creative ideals and technical feasibility.

One of the jobs of UX is to help facilitate communication between different areas of specialization. Ideally a team works together like clockwork, but I’ve worked with a number of teams that truly did not think of developers as “part of the team.” On these teams I’ve often served as the main conduit between tech and the rest of the team.

“The Magical Video Spokesperson” is a creative concept that has emerged from just about every creative team I have worked with that was disconnected from its developers. The idea is that

the user types in absolutely any question or keyword and a 100% relevant video plays in response.

Subservient Chicken, which launched in 2004, is one case where The Magical Video Spokesperson really worked. I had nothing to do with it, of course, and neither did anyone I’ve ever worked with. But, oh, the many creatives I have worked with who have hoped and dreamed of tapping the magic of The Magical Video Spokesperson!
